MANAUS
This impressive Brazilian city in 1650 was no more than an encampment on the Rio Negro, serving as a base for slavers hunting for Native Americans to be sold as slaves. Manaus became an important city in the 19th century, when it became rich on the rubber trade. The Teatro Amazonas opera house, constructed in neo-classicist style, is the foremost expression of this wealth. The Mercado Municipal market hall on the river, constructed out of pig iron in 1982, was based on the Les Halles market in Paris, and houses a lively fresh food and fish market. Some 15 km from the city’s centre, the Rio Solimões and Rio Negro join to become the Amazon River. During the 2014 football world cup in Brazil, Manaus was the only city in the Amazon where matches were played.$386,-

General information Brazil
To many, the Brazil is synonymous to football. Brazil is the largest country of South America and indeed one of the largest in the world. The country borders Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay. The Fernando de Noronha archipelago, 500 km from the Brazilian coast, also belongs to the country. Brazil is a mountainous country. Its highest peak is Pico de Neblina, in the Amazon, which rises to a height of 3,000 metres. Iguaçu National Park is a major natural park located in the south west of the Brazilian State of Paraná, close to where the borders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay join. Here, the Iguaçu River empties into the Paraná River, after tumbling over a plateau edge at the world-famous Iguaçu Falls. Particularly impressive among these is the so-called Devil’s Throat, a U-shaped, 80 metre-high fall. The Falls are surrounded by a massive subtropical rainforest which is home to over 2,750 plant species. Should you wish to see everything this impressive country has to offer, we advise you to organise a tour.
