CURAÇAO
Curaçao is, to many, the ideal place to have a holiday on the beach. While Curaçao does not have the long beaches Aruba is famous for, it does have many bays. But the island is so much more than just sun, sea and surf. The island’s capital of Willemstad is one of the most beautiful cities in the Caribbean. Willemstad was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The jagged Sint Anna Bay divides Willemstad in the districts of Punda and Otrobanda, connected by the Pontjesbrug pontoon bridge. Punda features the famous Handelskade quay, while Otrobanda is home to the Brionplein square. When in Punda, be sure to visit the so-called floating market, made up of little boats coming in from Venezuela, mainly with fruits and vegetables on offer. Before all, Curaçao is a very lively party island. While fine food is available everywhere on the island, we do have a few tips: for lunch, great Creole food is to be had on the Marsche Bieu market and great meals are available on the Warung Jawa terrace. And when visiting Westpunt, pop in at Jaanchies for a great fish soup. Curaçao has it all! During the evenings, great seating is available on Wilhelminaplein square in Punda and at the Iguana Café at Handelskade quay, where you can enjoy a splendid view over Otrabanda while having a tasty ice cream soda. Curaçao also has plenty to offer to fans of shopping. Highlights include the Breedestraat street in Otrobanda, the shopping mall next to the Renaissance Hotel, the many little shops in Punda, and the Bloempot and Sambil shopping malls – all on this one island!$137,-
