PUERTO RICO
Puerto Rico is the home of salsa and reggaeton music. Many major salsa and reggaeton artists, including Ricky Martin, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Daddy Yankee and Don Omar, originate from Puerto Rico. The island is located in the Caribbean Sea and is a territory of the United States. Puerto Rico is an archipelago comprising a number of islands in addition to the island of Puerto Rico itself, Vieques, Mona and Culebra being the most widely known of those. The main island features magnificent beaches and the El Yunque rainforest, which is controlled by the U.S. Forest Service and which surrounds Puerto Rico’s highest mountain, El Yunque, rising up to 1,080 metres above sea level. The main island is the Caribbean’s fourth-largest island, trailing Cuba, Hispaniola and Jamaica, and was discovered by Columbus. The territory’s capital, San Juan, is famous for its vibrant night life and has many architectural marvels, inviting terraces, restaurants and shops for you to discover. While originally constructed to serve as a military fortress, Old San Juan these days is San Juan’s most charming district. The island of Vieques, home to some 10,000 people, is famous for its beautiful beaches, including Red Beach and Blue Beach. Mona is the archipelago’s third most important island. It is uninhabited and essentially is one big nature reserve. The island’s many caves, some of which feature rock drawings or end in magnificent cliff sides, grant the island a very special character. Puerto Rico, with its bountiful beaches and many luxury hotels, is a perfect holiday destination. San Juan also serves as port of departure for many well-known cruise lines.$389,-
