General
The Saramaccan Maroon village of Jaw Jaw is situated near the Jaw Jaw rapids on the Upper Suriname river in the heart of Suriname and is surrounded by a beautiful jungle. This tour is one of a kind and offers you intensive contact with the local population, in part because you will be able to participate in various village activities. This makes it possible for you to fully experience the exceptional, centuries-old culture of these descendants of slaves who escaped from the plantations.

Transport
Transport takes place by land. You will be driven by minibus to Atjoni (approx. three hours). There, you will transfer onto a korjaal, which will bring you in Jaw Jaw after sailing for approx. one hour.
Stay
You will be staying at the Isadou resort, situated on an idyllic island directly opposite the village near the beautiful Jaw Jaw rapids. The resort offers group accommodations consisting of various small houses built in the traditional style and furnished with a number of beds with mosquito nets.

In the morning, you will depart for your exciting trip to Jaw Jaw where you will be arriving in the course of the afternoon. Once there, you will be able to spend the remainder of your day as you please. You can opt for relaxing in the splendid Jaw Jaw rapids, near your accommodation. In the evening, you will go look for caimans by korjaal.
Day 2
After breakfast, you will take a walk through the rainforest, followed by a village tour introducing you to the day-to-day culture of the Saramaccans. They have kept alive the African traditions of fishing, hunting, canoe building, and natural medicine in the Surinam jungle. After lunch, you will visit the village of Gunsi, located a little further, where you will be treated to a cultural show.
Day 3
After having enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, it is once again time to return to Paramaribo.
