Danpaati means “island near the village of Dan” and is situated in the middle of the tropical rainforest, surrounded solely by the untouched nature of the Amazon region and a few small Saramaccan villages. There, you can immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of the wilderness, learn everything about a different culture, or simply relax in one of the hammocks at the splendid Upper Suriname river. In doing so, you will be making a contribution towards the sustenance of the local population, as the Danpaati River Lodge offers these holidays under the umbrella of sustainable development. Danpaati River Lodge is there for anyone who is looking for a vacation that is just a little different, with various activities to relax, experience an adventure by making exciting jungle excursions or village tours accompanied by local guides, by swimming or by learning from the contact with the local population.

Transport
Transport to Danpaati takes place by land and water. The first leg will take approx. three hours by minibus. At Atjoni, you will transfer to an open korjaal for an approx. three-hour sailing trip to your final destination, and back.

Stay
Danpaati River Lodge has been built in accordance with the traditional building styles of the Upper Suriname region. While effectively tending to your comfort, the accommodations exude the same elegant simplicity that you will find everywhere in the villages surrounding the lodge. The lodge has 4 different kind of cabins:

Multi Cabin
The island has two cabins for families and groups of three people. This cabin has a double bed and a single bed with a shower and toilet. There is a beautiful balcony with a hammock. The cabin is equipped with conveniences including mosquito net, towels and sheets.

River/Forest Cabin
The island has 10 comfortable double cabins. On the river side of the island, there are seven double cabins, each with two single beds, all equipped with mosquito nets, shower and Toilet. The cabins also have electricity.

Luxury Cabin
There are three Luxury Cabins for special occasions. These are the most luxurious cabins and equipped with a queen-size bed and a sofa bed with a shower and toilet. A beautiful balcony with a high platform offers the best view of the river; the cabins are fully equipped.

Family Cabin
The Family cabin can accommodate up to 6 people. The multi-cabin has five single beds, all equipped with mosquito nets, shower and toilet.

Programme/Excursions
Your stay in Danpaati is all about enjoying the people and the surroundings. The idea is that much is possible, but nothing is a must. In addition to the magnificent lodge, the island and its surroundings also offer a diverse range of activities. How would you feel about exciting evening excursions in search of caimans? About village tours giving you the opportunity to meet face-to-face with the inhabitants of the region? About informative forest walks, ranging from one hour to an entire day? Or about a korjaal excursion to deserted creeks and exciting rapids? Of course, you can also stay on the island if you prefer to do so. On Danpaati, you can attend workshops that show you e.g. how to braid your hair in the traditional manner or allow you to try out art forms that the local in­habitants have already been doing for centuries. Other options include a traditional massage and a soothing herbal bath, administered by specially selected local massage therapists.
