Blanche Marie Waterfalls
One of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Suriname is located more than 300 km south-west of Paramaribo; the Blanche Marie waterfalls. These imposing waterfalls are typified by an enormous water displacement during the rainy season. They are more than one hundred metres wide, and are located in the high forest, the most beautiful type of tropical rainforest, where you can find all the ingredients needed for an unforgettable jungle experience.Apoera
Apoera is a border town in the district of Sipaliwini, located on Suriname’s right bank of the Corantijn River. The village has about 3,500 inhabitants.The 80-kilometre-long railway was built from 1976 to 1980. The railway was built from Apoera to the southern Bakhuis Mountains due to Bauxite mining. The plan was to develop Apoera into a port where the bauxite could be shipped but, in the end, the railway line was never commissioned.
Day 1
In the morning, you will depart from Paramaribo towards Zanderij. Along the way, you can fully enjoy the beautiful nature as you leave Suriname. After Zanderij, you will pass several Indian villages and continue to Witagron, a maroon village where you will stop for lunch. Witagron, also called Bitagron, means ‘Land of my ancestors’.
After lunch, the road continues to the Blanche Marie waterfalls. You will have an opportunity to explore the surroundings and then head to the lodge.
Day 2
After breakfast, we visit the waterfalls. You can relax and enjoy the beautiful nature here.
In the afternoon we return to the lodge for lunch, then visit the El Dorado traps where you can also fish if you like.
Day 3
After breakfast, we leave for Apoera. Arriving in Apoera, you will make your way to your lodge. This is followed by an excursion to Apoera town and a visit to the railway line. Next, you will visit the small Indian villages Kwamalasemutu and Washabo, where you will also be introduced to the Trio and Arowak Indians. In the evening, there will be a social gathering after dinner.
Day 4
After breakfast, you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings for a while before it is time for the return trip to Paramaribo.
