General
< Raleigh falls on the upper Coppename river, one of the last large, uninhabited, and unspoilt rivers on earth, is a part of the 1.6 million hectares-large Central Suriname Nature Reserve, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This nature reserve, known for its magnificent lakes and the mysterious Voltzberg, is internationally renowned among birdwatchers for being the bird paradise of South America. This region is also home to the eight different species of monkeys present in Suriname. In other words, Raleigh falls is the perfect destination for every nature lover!

Transport
A minibus will drive you in approx. one hour’s time from Paramaribo to Boskamp at the Coppename river. There, you will transfer onto a korjaal, which will bring you to the Central Surinam Nature Reserve after sailing for approx. four hours, and back.
Stay
On this tour, you will stay on Fungu island, in the middle of a series of beautiful rapids. The simple huts on the island consist of four or more beds with mosquito nets, a dining room, and a kitchen. The showers and toilets are communal and usually situated outside the huts.
Facilities
There is no electricity and you will be using oil lamps.
Day 1
Once you have arrived after your exciting bus and boat trip, you will first be given the opportunity to explore this marvellous setting on your own. In the afternoon, the guide will take you to the Manari rapids, where you can go for a refreshing swim and enjoy the natural massaging effect of the fast-flowing water.
Day 2
The programme today consist of climbing the 240 metres-high Voltzberg. After an approx. three-hour walk through the high forest, you will arrive at the granite plateaus, from where you can see the Voltzberg rise above the forest in the distance. The last segment of the route is an intensive climb to the top, which will take approx. one hour. Upon arriving at the top, you will be more than rewarded for your efforts with a magnificent view of the endless Amazon forest and the mysterious mountains in the south of the country.
Day 3
Today, you will be able to recover from the previous day’s excitement and you will visit the turbulent Moeder waterfalls, where you will be able to relish every moment in these gigantic rapids.
Day 4
After breakfast you will travel by boat from Raleighvallen to Witagron after that back to Paramaribo.
