General
The crowning glory of this tour is located in the deep south of Suriname, close to the border with Brazil. It is the mysterious 718-metres-high Mount Kasikasima, with no less than twelve peaks! The Kasikasima tour is unique and will make you discover the unspoilt tropical rainforest, brave several impressive rapids, and spend the night in simple hammock camps, for the purpose of climbing one of the peaks of the granite mountain. So, if you are an adventurous nature lover who does not shy away from a challenge, then this tour is for you!
Duration: 5 or 8 days
Including: transportation by airplane from airport Zorg en Hoop, accommodation, guide, meals, coffee, tea, water, juice and local excursions
Transport
A flight, averaging approx. seventy-five minutes, from Zorg en Hoop airport in Paramaribo to the landing strip of Palumeu, where the tour to Kasikasima will begin, and back. The remainder of the route will be completed on foot and by korjaal in the subsequent days.
Stay
You will spend the first and last night (supplemented by the one last night in the case of the eight-day tour) in Palumeu. There, you will stay in a group accommodation, which offers five two-person bedrooms with communal toilets and showers. The remainder of the nights will be spent in simple open-air camps, where you will sleep in a mosquito net-covered hammock. During these days, you can use the river to wash and bathe.
8-Day Tour
Day 1
After your arrival in Palumeu, you will visit the beautiful Palawa island by korjaal. On the way back, you will stop in the Native American village of Palumeu where you will gain a good understanding of village life. In the evening, you will be provided with more information about your trip to Mount Kasikasima.
Day 2
Today, you will travel by korjaal to Camp Kamakabari, a trip of three to seven hours depending on the water level. At the camp, you will set up the hammock camp together with your fellow travellers, before going for a swim, having your back massaged by the water of the rapids or going fishing.
Day 3
The exciting trip to the Kasikasima base camp begins today. You will have to brave various rapids. This includes the Trombakasula, which is unnavigable. Here, you will have to disembark to embark again further upstream and continue your trip to the base camp, where you will arrive late in the afternoon.
Day 4
The entire day is focused on the intensive climb. Once you have conquered the granite rock, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the “roof” of the jungle. You will return to the base camp after completing the descent, which is just as adventurous.
Day 5
In the morning, you will depart for a healthy walk to the Kodebaku waterfalls, where you can enjoy the water spectacle. After your return, you can spend the remainder of the day as you like.
Day 6
Once you have broken camp, you will start the return trip to Palumeu, where you will arrive in the afternoon.
Day 7
You can organise this day as you wish.
Day 8
After a guided tour through the village and lunch, you will return to Paramaribo.
5-Day Tour
This is the same as the 8-day tour, but without the activities of the 8-day tour that take place on the fifth and eighth day.
