Arrival at the J.A. Pengel airport (Zanderij) of Suriname. Bus transport to your hotel in Paramaribo. You will stay in Eco Torarica.
Today’s programme is a City & Shopping tour by Tuk Tuk so you can enjoy all the lovely things that Paramaribo has to offer you. Learn about the rich history of the ‘Wooden City’ which has been placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. During this extensive City & Shopping tour, you will for instance visit Fort Zeelandia, the Central Market, the gold jewellers, the famous Mosque and Synagogue, the Cathedral and the Independence Square, and you can shop in the popular Hermitage Mall. You will stay in Eco Torarica. Meals included for this day: breakfast and lunch.
Awarradam is a small, idyllic resort on an island in the Amazon rain forest, at the foot of a fantastic rapid. It takes about half an hour to sail to the settlement of the Saramaccaners, the largest Marron community in Suriname. These facts make Awarradam the ideal resort, not just for nature lovers but also for those who wish to become acquainted with the culture of the Saramaccaners at a calm pace.
Transport
The transport to and from Zorg & Hoop airport is included. The flight takes about one hour from Zorg & Hoop airport in Paramaribo to the airstrip at the village of Kajana. Here you transfer to an open korjaal and arrive at Awarradam after sailing for about 30 minutes.
Accommodation
The individual lodges have been built in traditional style with the veranda offering you a wonderful view of the river. Each lodge has hammocks on the veranda, 2 beds with mosquito nets, own toilet and shower with cold running water.
Facilities
The meals are served in a charming recreational room from which you have a fantastic view of the rapid. You can also relax in the atmospheric jungle bar-lounge or visit the ‘BööKamia’ Jungle Spa for a lovely relaxing massage, various body scrubs or a facial.
Day 3
In the morning, you will leave by aeroplane for your adventure to Awarradam. After checking in and a delicious lunch, you will have the afternoon to spend at your leisure. Meals included for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 4
After breakfast, you will go on an educational ‘jungle walk’. While you enjoy yourself and are astounded by the unspoilt tropical rain forest, the guide will explain about the trees and plants and how you can recognize animals by the sounds they make and their tracks. After lunch you will visit the Peti rapid. You can swim, peddle in a korjaal and enjoy the magnificent view from a hammock. In the evening, you will be given further information about a few fascinating aspects of the local culture. Meals included for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 5
After breakfast, you will sail upstream. After half an hour, the engine of the korjaal will be switched off and you will float back with the current of the river, allowing you to enjoy the jungle noises and fauna to the full. If you are more adventurous, you could use the canoe and peddle back to the lodge at your own pace. In the afternoon, you will visit the local community where you can become further acquainted with the local culture. During the trip, you will experience what it is like on the river which is the lifeline of the local community. From the mooring place, you will go on a long walk past various villages and you will gain a good impression of everyday life in a Marron village. After dinner, you will be treated to an authentic cultural evening filled with song and dance. Under a tropical starry sky, you will be brought back by the boat crew to Awarradam. Day 6
After breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye and return to Paramaribo. You will stay in Eco Torarica. Meal included for this day: breakfast.

You will go by bicycle to Peperpot plantation. On the way, you will pass various small workers’ houses and plantation areas where you can sometimes spot many monkeys and giant lizards, before you arrive at Peperpot, a former coffee and cocoa plantation in the district of Commewijne. Once you have had the opportunity to view the impressive grounds of the former factory and have had lunch, you will cycle back to Paramaribo. You will stay in Eco Torarica. Meals included for this day: breakfast and lunch.
Unfortunately, today is the last day of your tour. You will be collected in the afternoon for the transfer to the airport. You will arrive at Schiphol airport the following morning. Meal included for this day: breakfast.
