Arrival at the J.A. Pengel airport (Zanderij) of Suriname. Bus transport to your hotel in Paramaribo. You will stay in a hotel of your choice in Paramaribo: Eco Resort Hotel or Krasnapolsky Hotel.
Today’s programme is a City & Shopping tour by Tuk Tuk so you can enjoy all the lovely things that Paramaribo has to offer you. Learn about the rich history of the ‘Wooden City’ which has been placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. During this extensive City & Shopping tour, you will for instance visit Fort Zeelandia, the famous Mosque and Synagogue, the Cathedral and the Independence Square, and you can shop in the popular Hermitage Mall. You will stay in Eco Resort Hotel or Krasnapolsky Hotel. Meals included for this day: lunch.
With the Ancient Traditions tour, you will visit the Marron wood carvers and the native potters where you will learn about these century-old crafts. You will also see the most beautiful butterflies in the butterfly garden. You will then travel to Caribo Beach, a stunning river beach on the Suriname river, where you can enjoy a lovely swim, relax and think back on all the happy memories of this day. You will go by bicycle to Peperpot plantation. On the way, you will pass various small workers’ houses and plantation areas where you can sometimes spot many monkeys and giant lizards, before you arrive at Peperpot, a former coffee and cocoa plantation in the district of Commewijne. Once you have had the opportunity to view the impressive grounds of the former factory and have had lunch, you will cycle back to Paramaribo. You will stay in Eco Resort Hotel or Krasnapolsky Hotel. Day 5
Early in the morning you will leave from Paramaribo, via the East-West connection, through the districts of Commewijne and Marowijne, towards Albina where you will arrive later that morning. The journey will be continued from here by boat. The boat trip will take about an hour and a half. After lunch, you will go for a walk through the village and become acquainted with the culture of the friendly native Caribbean tribe. After dinner*, you will sail to Babusanti, one of the few places in the world where you can see the giant turtles which come to lay their eggs on the beach. This is an annual occurrence during the nesting season which takes place from February to mid-August. Outside of the season, this visit to the turtles is replaced by a cultural show. Day 6
After breakfast, the guide will take you for a beach walk and you will have the chance to take a refreshing dip in the river. Afterwards, the guide will take you on a walk through the village of Christiaan Kondre. On the way back to Paramaribo, you will stop off in Frans Guyana where you can also visit the former prison (optional). You will stay in Eco Resort Hotel or Krasnapolsky Hotel. With this tour to Brownsberg nature park of 8400 hectares, in just one day you will become acquainted with a large part of the wide variety of flora and fauna that the Surinamese rain forest has to offer. You will likely be accompanied by the loud roars of the monkeys as you walk past idyllic waterfalls and mountain streams and enjoy the magnificent views of the tropical rain forest and the Brokopondo reservoir. You will stay in Eco Resort Hotel or Krasnapolsky Hotel. Meals included for this day: breakfast and lunch.
Day 10
Today, you will leave from Paramaribo to the charming capital of the district of Nickerie: Nieuw Nickerie, where you will arrive in the late afternoon and visit the new sea wall of Nickerie with the opportunity of watching the beautiful sunset. On the way, you will travel through the vast landscape and stunning rice fields alternating between the landscape of Indonesia and of the Netherlands. You will stop at the historic village of Groningen, where Dutch farmers landed about 150 years ago, as you will guess from the Dutch name. A visit to Wageningen, once the thriving centre of the rice culture, will also be on the programme today. Meals included for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 11
Today’s programme is a visit to the largest lagoon in Suriname: Bigi Pan nature reserve. You will sail by korjaal through creeks, mangroves and swamps and become acquainted with this breeding Eldorado of more than 120 bird species. At about 3 pm, you will begin the return trip to Paramaribo, which will take about 3 hours. You will stay in Eco Resort Hotel or Krasnapolsky Hotel. Meals included for this day: breakfast and lunch.
Day 12
You will travel by minibus for about 3 hours to Atjoni, where you will transfer to a korjaal which will bring you to and from the Anaula Nature Resort in about an hour. The Anaula Nature Resort has 16 detached lodges, all with a fantastic view of the river. These lodges offer accommodation for 2 to 5 people per lodge and have four-poster beds with mosquito nets, comfortable furniture, a bathroom with a shower (cold water) and toilet and a veranda. After arrival, you will have the opportunity to explore the resort. After dinner, your guide will give you information about the area and explain about the Saramacca culture. Meals included for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 13
You will have the morning to spend at your leisure. After lunch, you will go on a forest walk, then sail by korjaal to an uninhabited island with a beautiful sandy beach where you can relax, swim and enjoy a lovely bubble bath. After dinner, you will go on an exciting adventure by korjaal, in search of caimans. Meals included for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 14
On the last day at Anaula, you will have lunch before you leave by coach and boat for Paramaribo. You will arrive back at your hotel in Paramaribo in the late afternoon. You will stay in Eco Resort Hotel or Krasnapolsky Hotel. Meals included for this day: breakfast and lunch.
Unfortunately, today is the last day of your tour. You will be collected in the afternoon for the transfer to the airport. You will arrive at Schiphol airport the following morning. Meal included for this day: breakfast.
