Arrival at the J.A. Pengel airport (Zanderij) in Suriname. Private transport to your hotel in Paramaribo. You will stay at hotel Torarica in Paramaribo. Welcome coconut on the terrace of hotel Torarica. If preferred, you can also choose (at a surcharge or discount) from other accommodation such as Royal Torarica, Radisson (former Krasnapolsky), Ramada or Jacana Amazon Wellness Resort.
During the city walk you will get to know the rich history behind the beautiful wooden facades. Our experienced guide will provide you with all kinds of interesting information about the historical monuments, buildings and old streets that you will pass on your way. You will also visit several museums, the synagogue, the bustling Central Market with the Maroon spice market next door, an art gallery and souvenir shop and receive an extensive tour of Fort Zeelandia. After the walk, you will enjoy a delicious Surinamese lunch (included) before returning to your hotel.
Day 3
Departure by plane from Paramaribo approx. 10.00 am. Arrival at Kwamalasemutu at around noon. After settling down in the traditional hammock camp on the banks of the river, we will visit the Granman (Grand Chief of the Trio Indians). In the afternoon we will take a village walk and find out more about the various, traditional tribes, their lifestyles and their daily habits.
Day 4
After breakfast we prepare ourselves for the boat trip to Sipaliwini. Around noon we reach the base camp for the night (in a bivouac). There is an opportunity to fish, swim or just relax.
Day 5
After dismantling our camp and a good breakfast we continue our journey to Sipaliwini, where we arrive around 1.00 pm. In the afternoon we meet the head of this village and the local people. We then spend the evening together in a camp along the Sipaliwini river, where we will also spend the night.
Day 6
After breakfast, we leave for Mamia in the Sipaliwini savannah, in search of the Dendrobatis Azureus (rare blue poison dart frog) Okopipi, which is found only in this area of Suriname. We will then walk for about 1.5 hours to the top of the Four Brothers, with a formidable view over the Sipaliwini savannah, with Brazil in the distance. In the afternoon we return to base camp on Mamia where we will spend the night.
Day 7
We sail back to Sipaliwini by boat, where after a short break we take a forest walk that leads us to the Cock of the Rock (Rotshaantjes). In the afternoon, there will an opportunity for bow and arrow shooting and/or a swim in the river. On request, the evening can be supplemented with a cultural show with singing and dancing by a local group.
Day 8
After breakfast, we prepare ourselves for the adventurous trip over the many rapids to base camp for the night, where we will enjoy a beautiful starry sky and the natural sounds from the rainforest, including frogs and howler monkeys. We will also complete a night-time cruise for spotting caimans, frogs, snakes etc.
Day 9
Departure from base camp followed by a forest hike through the breathtaking natural environment, to the caves of Werephai with the newly discovered petroglyphs (rock drawings). These caves were discovered in 2001 and are between 5,000 and 10,000 years old. After a short stop at Iwanasamu, we sail to Kwamalasamutu for our last overnight stay. In the afternoon, you may visit the shaman or the women’s centre to buy souvenirs.
Day 10
In the morning hours, the return flight to Paramaribo will begin.

In the middle of the beautiful, unspoiled Amazon area, inhabited only by traditional Trio Indians, is Suriname’s largest waterfall complex: the Wonotobo Falls. This impressive area has an extraordinary collection of waterfalls of varying height and power, such as the Blue Crane waterfall, the Hollander waterfall, the Frenchman waterfall and the 3 km long wonotobo waterfalls. This is where adventure-seeking nature lovers will have an amazing experience that they will never forget!
During this tour you will cruise on the mighty Corantijn River, visit the Indian villages Oreala in Guyana and Apoera in Suriname, traverse large rapids like Cow Falls and Wanakabra Falls, complete beautiful forest hikes, and explore the impressive Wonotobo waterfall complex. There is also time to relax, swim and/or fish in this beautiful area.
Transport
The first part of the journey is made by bus. The rest of the expedition will involve transport by korjaal and partly on foot.
Day 12 – 15 Early departure to Nickerie by bus and boat to Cow Falls where you will spend the night in tents. The journey continues on days 13 and 14. On day 15 you will arrive at the Wonotobo falls at the end of the afternoon, after a stunning cruise on the beautiful Corantijn river
Day 16 – 17
You are free to explore the beautiful surroundings of the Wonotobo falls.
Day 18
In the early morning we pack up the tents and start our journey back to Nickerie. In the evening you will arrive in Nickerie where you will spend the night.
Day 19
After breakfast we depart by bus from Nickerie to Paramaribo.
After so many beautiful days in nature it is now time to experience some culture in Suriname.
Day 20
The trip to the Danpaati River Lodge starts early in the morning when an air-conditioned bus will pick you up and take you to Atjoni. From Paramaribo it takes about 3 hours (including a bite to eat and sanitary stops) before you arrive at Atjoni. There, a motorised korjaal will be waiting to take you to Danpaati River Lodge in about 2½ hours. Arriving at Danpaati, the lodge manager will welcome you and set out the programme for the next 3 days, while you enjoy a cool drink. You can then enjoy a delicious local lunch. One of the staff will then accompany you to your cabin, where you will have time to unpack, freshen up and rest. Once rested, you can take a tour of the island or explore on your own. In the late afternoon you will be taken by motorised korjaal to a ‘natural jacuzzi’, namely the Sula’s, to swim and have fun (depending on the water level). At 8.00 pm dinner is served, consisting of a combination of local dishes with western influences. Afterwards, you can enjoy a drink on your balcony or in the atmospheric bar/lounge while discovering the fascinating sounds of the jungle.
Day 21
After a delicious breakfast, it is time to explore the surroundings of Danpaati. The experienced guide will take you on a guided walk around the village of Dan, where you will learn about the local people’s unique way of life and the traditional customs and habits that their ancestors brought back from Africa. After the village walk and a delicious lunch, you have time to swim, relax or book additional tours. The exciting Caiman Tour is then scheduled for the evening, after dinner. On a clear night, you can enjoy the beautiful starry sky and silence of the Amazon rainforest, while the boatman will take you on a search for caimans and night swallows.
Day 22
After breakfast, there will be a hike through the forest. During this walk you will get to know traditional and medicinal trees and plants and, with a bit of luck, you will meet some exotic animals and insects. You will return to Danpaati at around noon, to enjoy a delicious lunch. Later in the evening, after dinner, you can enjoy a special cultural dance performance. Traditional dances such as the Seketi, Awasa and Bandamba will be performed. The guide will explain the meaning of these dances. (Please note that the cultural dance evening is only offered with a minimum number of 8 guests)
Day 23
Swimming, kayaking, enjoying nature or just relaxing in a hammock, you can do it all on your last day on the island. It’s entirely up to you. You will also have the opportunity to book another of our other fantastic tours, before saying goodbye to Danpaati after lunch. The boatman will take you back to Atjoni by motorised dugout canoe, where you will continue your journey by bus to Paramaribo.

Today, the adventurous round trip unfortunately comes to an end. If you are heading home today, you will be picked up in the afternoon for the transfer to the airport.
