Day 1: Arrival

Arrival at the J.A. Pengel airport (Zanderij) in Suriname. Bus transfer to your hotel of choice in Paramaribo.

Day 2: City & Shopping tour

Join the City & Shopping tour and enjoy all the beauty that Paramaribo has to offer. Before you leave for or after returning from the inland regions, take some time to get acquainted with Paramaribo, the impressive capital of the fascinating country Suriname. You will find out more about the rich history of the ‘Wooden City’, the city that has been placed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO. During this extensive City & Shopping tour you will visit sites such as Fort Zeelandia, De Central Market, the gold jewellers, the famous Mosque and Synagogue, the Cathedral, and Independence Square and you can shop in the popular Hermitage Mall. Meals included for this day: breakfast and lunch.

Day 3 – 5: 3-day Galibi tour

Day 3
In the morning you will depart from Paramaribo, via the east-west connection, through the districts of Commewijne and Marowijne, towards Albina where you will arrive in the morning. From here the journey will be continued by boat. You will arrive after sailing for around an hour and a half and, after lunch, will take a village walk, when you will become acquainted with the culture of the friendly indigenous Caribbean tribe. After dinner* you sail to Babusanti; this is one of the few places in the world where you can see giant sea turtles laying their eggs on the beach. This is an annual, recurring phenomenon in the nesting season that runs from February to mid-August. In the off-season, the visit to the sea turtles is replaced by a cultural show. (*Departure time depends on the tide) Included meals for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 4
After breakfast, a visit to the sandbank is on the agenda. This sandbank, called Tijgerbank, is the only sandbank in Suriname. The sand is reminiscent of a beach and you can sunbathe and swim. After lunch you may spend the afternoon as you wish. After dinner you can watch the Samboera, traditional indigenous dance. You may also participate, at the invitation of the artists. Included meals for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 5
After breakfast, your guide will take you for a beach walk and there is an opportunity to take an invigorating dip in the river. After this, you and the guide will walk through the village Christiaan kondre. On the way back to Paramaribo, you will stop in French Guiana where you can visit the old prison (optional). Overnight stay in hotel Krasnapolsky. Included meals for this day: breakfast and lunch.

Day 6 – 9: 4-day Palumeu tour

Jungle lodge Palumeu, located close to the indigenous village of the same name, is situated along the Upper Tapanahony river, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. You will be fascinated by this part of the tropical rainforest, where howler monkeys and birds announce the dawn of a new day, where there are impressive rapids and unique flora & fauna, and where you can experience the current lifestyle of the indigenous Trio and Wajana tribes. This tour is ideal for nature lovers who wish to experience the tropical rainforest as the natives have done for centuries, but with the addition of a little comfort.

Accommodation
The lodges, 2 under 1 roof, are built in traditional style with a veranda which offers you a beautiful view of the river. Each lodge has a bedroom with two single beds which are equipped with a mosquito net, a private toilet and shower with cold running water. Included meals for days 6 to 8: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 6
Upon arrival, you will be taken to the beautiful Palawa Island for a picnic lunch and a lovely swim in the cool river water. In the afternoon you will visit the Indian village Palumeu where you will find out more about the current lifestyle of the oldest inhabitants of the Amazon forest.

Day 7
Today is dedicated to the Potihill, a granite hill that you will climb. After this effort, you will be rewarded at the top with a breathtaking view. When you return, in the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow.

Day 8
In the morning you will depart by korjaal to the Mabuka Falls for a day of relaxation. For the more active travellers, there is a walk through the jungle. In the evening, you will be taken for a night cruise on the river to enjoy the nocturnal jungle sounds.

Day 9
In the morning you will complete an extensive village walk. After lunch you will depart for Paramaribo. Included meals for this day: breakfast and lunch.

Day 10: Day to spend at your leisure

Free day in Paramaribo at your own leisure. Included meal for this day: breakfast.

Day 11 – 13: 3-day Anaula Nature Resort tour

Anaula Nature Resort has about 16 detached lodges, all of which offer a beautiful view of the river. These lodges offer accommodation for 2 to 5 people per lodge and have four-poster beds with mosquito nets, comfortable furniture, a bathroom with shower (cold water) and toilet, and a veranda.

Day 11
After breakfast you will be picked up in Paramaribo and driven further south to the town of Atjoni. After the bus trip you will continue the journey by korjaal (boat); it takes about 40 minutes to reach the island of Anaula. After arrival, you will have the opportunity to explore the resort. After dinner, your guide will provide information about the area and explain the Saramaccan culture. Included meals for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 12
After breakfast you will depart by korjaal towards New Aurora. During the tour of the village you will find out more about the unique lifestyle of the local population. From Nieuw Aurora you will go on foot to the village of Gunsi, where you will pass several allotments owned by local inhabitants. After lunch you will take a walk in the forest. After the forest walk you will sail by korjaal to an uninhabited island with a beautiful sandy beach where you can relax, swim and enjoy a wonderful bubble bath. After dinner (min. 8 participants) you can enjoy a traditional and cultural dance performance. Included meals for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 13
You have the morning at your disposal. After lunch your stay comes to an end and you will return to Paramaribo for overnight stay in your hotel. Included meals for this day: breakfast and lunch.

Day 14 – 16: 3-day Berg & Dal tour

Berg & Dal has extremely comfortable rooms at the resort. At Berg & Dal, there are plenty of optional activities in which to participate. Try the canopy cable car where you can ‘zip’ from treetop to treetop. You can also take a kayak trip on the Suriname river.

Day 14
Departure to Berg & Dal from hotel Krasnapolsky in the centre of Paramaribo. After a bus journey of about an hour you will arrive at the Berg & Dal Eco Cultural river resort. Included meals for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 15
Today, you can take an optional trip outside the Berg & Dal resort. You might wish to go boating on the Suriname River or you take an exciting forest walk at Berg & Dal. Included meals for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 16
You can spend the morning as you wish. After breakfast, your stay at Berg & Dal comes to an end and you will return to Paramaribo in the morning. Included meal for this day: breakfast.

Day 17 – 19: 3-day Plantage Frederiksdorp tour

During this tour you will become acquainted with the rich plantation past of the Commewijne district.

Day 17
After driving over the huge bridge across the Suriname River, you will pass through the Commewijne district where many locals still practice horticulture or fish and shrimp fishing. You will visit Fort Nieuw Amsterdam where the Suriname and Commewijne rivers meet. This fortress has had a very important role in the history of Suriname and you can witness this in the outdoor exhibition as well as in the indoor areas. Afterwards, you will make a half hour boat trip to the completely renovated plantation Frederiksdorp. You will spend the night in a former planter’s house. Included meals for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 18
After breakfast there is a tour of the Frederiksdorp marshes, where you will see beautiful vegetation. This area is also known for the many birds that flock there. Lunch is served upon return from the marsh, after which the guests are brought back to Paramaribo. There are many other activities such as cycling along the Plantations as well as dolphin watching on the Suriname River. Included meals for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 19
You have the morning at your disposal. After lunch you will return to Paramaribo. Included meals for this day: breakfast and lunch.

Day 20 – 23: 4-day Awarradam tour

Awarradam is a small, idyllic holiday resort on an island in the Amazon rainforest, at the foot of some fantastic rapids. At about half an hour by boat lies the habitat of the Saramaccaners, the largest Maroon community in Suriname. These aspects make Awarradam a holiday resort par excellence, not only for nature lovers but also for those who want to find out more about the culture of the Saramaccaners at a relaxed pace.

Transport
Transport to Zorg & Hoop airport v.v. is included. Approximately 1 hour flight from Zorg en Hoop airport in Paramaribo to the air strip near the village of Kajana. Here you will transfer to a korjaal and after about 30 minutes sailing you will arrive at Awarradam.

Accommodation
The individual lodges are built in traditional style with the veranda offering you a beautiful view of the river. Each lodge is equipped with hammocks on the veranda, 2 beds which are provided with a mosquito net, a private toilet and a shower with cold running water. Included meals for day 20 to 22: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Facilities
Meals are served in the cosy recreation room, from where you have a splendid view of the rapids. You can also relax in the cosy jungle bar-lounge or visit the “BööKamia” Jungle Spa for a wonderful relaxation massage, various body scrubs or facial treatment.

Day 20
In the morning, you will depart for your adventure to Awarradam via the local airport Zorg & hoop. After checking in and a delicious lunch, you have the afternoon to yourself.

Day 21
After breakfast you will make an educational ‘jungle walk’. While you enjoy and admire the pristine tropical rainforest, your guide will provide information about trees and plants and teach you how to recognise animals by their sounds and tracks. After lunch you will visit the Peti rapids. You can swim, paddle in a korjaal and enjoy the beautiful view from a hammock. In the evening you will be provided with further information and some fascinating facts about the local culture.

Day 22
After breakfast you sail upstream. After half an hour of sailing, the engine of the korjaal will be switched off and you will drift back with the current of the river so you can enjoy the jungle sounds and wildlife. If you are more adventurous, you can use the canoe to paddle back to the lodge at your own pace. In the afternoon you will visit the local community where you will learn more about the culture. On the boat trip there, you will experience how things are done on the river, which provides a lifeline for the local community. From the mooring point, you will take a long walk through different villages and gain an overview of daily life in a Maroon village. After dinner you will be treated to an authentic cultural evening of song and dance. Under a tropical, starry sky you will be taken back to Awarradam by boat.

Day 23
After breakfast it’s time to say goodbye and you will return to Paramaribo. Included meals for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 24: Day to spend at your leisure

Free day in Paramaribo at your own leisure.

Day 25: Bike tour Plantation Peperpot

Today there you will make a trip to Plantage Peperpot by bike. On the way you will pass several small workers’ houses and plantation areas where you can sometimes see monkeys and giant lizards, before arriving at the old coffee and cacao plantation Peperpot in the district of Commewijne. After you have had the opportunity to visit the impressive grounds of the old factory, you will cycle back to Paramaribo after lunch. Included meals for this day: breakfast and lunch.

Day 26 – 27: 2-day Nickerie/Bigipan tour

The Nickerie district is known as the rice district and is located on the border with Guyana, about 240 km west of Paramaribo. The northern border is formed by the Atlantic Ocean; to the south lies the district Sipaliwini, to the east the district of Coronie.

Day 26
Today you will start a 2-day tour to the west of Suriname, towards Nickerie. The bus trip to Nickerie, through the districts Saramacca (known for its vegetable cultivation) and Coronie (coconut district), takes about 3 hours. Along the way the guide will provide information about the history of the area and interesting sights. After checking in at the comfortable hotel Residence Inn Nickerie, the guide will take you for a city tour through New – Nickerie. Overnight stay in hotel Residence Inn Nickerie. Included meals for this day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 27
In the morning you will visit the Bigi Pan nature reserve. There, you will board a boat that will take you to the heart of this beautiful nature reserve. Along the way you will be able to admire red ibises and numerous other rare birds. After lunch we depart by bus to Wageningen, a former agricultural village named after the town of the same name in the Netherlands, and you will be given an explanation of the former Foundation for Machinale Landbouw. On the way you will visit the rice fields and will head towards Paramaribo. Dinner. ncluded meals for this day: breakfast and lunch.

Day 28: Day to spend at your leisure

Free day in Paramaribo at your own leisure. Included meal for this day: breakfast.

Day 29: End of the roundtrip

Your tour has come to an end and in the morning you will be picked up at the hotel for your transfer to the International Airport for your return flight.
